Propylcarboxylic acid functionalized silica is a type of silica that has been modified with propylcarboxylic acid. This modification allows the silica to be used as a drug carrier for anticancer drugs, such as doxorubicin, doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles, and paclitaxel. The particles are able to penetrate cells and release the drug at the site of cancerous growths. The chloride ions in this product make it toxic to cells. Propylcarboxylic acid functionalized silica has also been shown to have stabilizing effects on other nanoparticles that have not yet been explored.
