2-(Piperidin-4-yl)pyridine is an amide with piperidine and chloroformate at the 4-position. It has a cycloaliphatic ring system, which is related to the opioid meperidine. 2-(Piperidin-4-yl)pyridine can be used as an analgesic agent, and it also has antinociceptive properties. This compound has been shown to bind to the d4 receptor in rats, which may explain its analgesic effects. The binding affinity of this compound for the d4 receptor is similar to that of meperidine or tetrahydropyran. 2-(Piperidin-4-yl)pyridine can also be used as a starting material for synthesizing other compounds such as aspirin or quaternization agents.
