(3S,4R)-4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl-1-methylpiperidine is a synthetic compound that is an inhibitor of serotonin reuptake. It is used in analytical chemistry and chromatography as a stationary phase. (3S,4R)-4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl-1-methylpiperidine has been found to be an excellent ligand for separation of the enantiomers of serotonin on alumina. This compound can also be used to prepare salts with inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid. The solubility of this compound in organic solvents is low and it cannot be easily removed from the reaction mixture by filtration or evaporation.
