1,5-Pentanediyl bismethanethiosulfonate is a reactive, active methylene monomer that belongs to the class of thiosulfonates. Its most important application is in medicinal preparations and as a cytotoxic compound. It has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and leprosy, as well as inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and psoriasis. 1,5-Pentanediyl bismethanethiosulfonate is used in the synthesis of anti-inflammatory drugs and cytostatic drugs. This compound is also used for alkylation reactions with proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. The reactivity of 1,5-pentanediyi bismethanethiosulfonate can be increased by adding calcium ions.
