Perazine sulfoxide is a potent inducer of the cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are responsible for metabolizing drugs. It has been shown to inhibit the metabolism of dopamine, leading to an increase in its levels in the brain. Perazine sulfoxide also inhibits human alpha-1 acid glycoprotein and has been shown to bind to human serum albumin. The drug binds to protein receptors on cells, resulting in an inhibition of drug binding and drug interactions with other drugs. Perazine sulfoxide is eliminated by hepatic metabolism and undergoes oxidative deamination by p-450 enzymes. The inhibition constant is approximately 7 mM, making it a potent inhibitor of these enzymes.
