Description:

5-Phenyloxazolidine-2,4-dione is a synthetic psychostimulant that is used in the treatment of depression. It has been shown to inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin and increase levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain. 5-Phenyloxazolidine-2,4-dione is metabolized by hydrolysis to form an analog with reversed polarity, which has similar pharmacokinetic properties. The drug is excreted in urine as both free and conjugated forms. A chromatographic method for its detection in human plasma samples has also been developed.
