Description

Pivampicillin hydrochloride is a synthetic antibiotic derived from the penicillin group of beta-lactam antibiotics. It has been shown to have antiviral properties against certain DNA viruses, such as herpes and pox viruses, and also inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Pivampicillin hydrochloride binds to the viral DNA molecule by forming a covalent bond with the phosphate backbone of nucleotides in the virus's genetic material. This prevents viral replication and thus slows or stops the infection. Pivampicillin hydrochloride also binds to bacterial DNA, but does not form a covalent bond with it. Instead, it binds to specific cavities in bacterial DNA that are not present in human DNA. This prevents bacterial replication, inhibiting microbial infections.
