4-(1-Pyrenyl)butyramide is a monoacylglycerol that belongs to the class of acyl chain. It has been shown to have fluidity and acidity, which may be due to its long acyl chain. 4-(1-Pyrenyl)butyramide has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in culture by binding to choline receptors on the surface of cells. This drug also has cardioprotective effects and is a potential therapeutic agent for cardiovascular disorders. 4-(1-Pyrenyl)butyramide is amphiphilic, with functional groups that are hydrophobic and hydrophilic. It can form noncovalent interactions with phosphatidylethanolamine or other phospholipids found in the plasma membrane of cells, which may be involved in its anticancer effects.
