2-Phenyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid is an α-amino acid with chiral properties. It is a reactive molecule that can be used to synthesize amides, amines, and imidazoles. 2-Phenyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid has been synthesized from the reaction of phenylhydrazine with succinic anhydride, followed by reduction using lithium aluminum hydride. This compound can also be prepared by reductive amination of aromatic aldehydes and amines. 2-Phenyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid has three asymmetric carbon atoms, two of which are stereogenic centers. The third asymmetric center is located at the heterocyclic nitrogen atom. This makes it a tridentate ligand and nucleophile in addition to being an ester
