Name:
Propyl laurate
Synonyms:
  • Dodecanoic acid, propyl ester
  • NSC 42573
  • Propyl Dodecanoate
  • Lauric acid, propyl ester
Description:

Propyl laurate is a chemically stable, liquid glycol ether with a hydroxyl group and an acyl chain of 10 to 18 carbon atoms. It is used as an extraction solute for the determination of glycol ethers in environmental samples. The surface methodology includes solid phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The kinetic data are obtained using GC-MS. Propyl laurate has been shown to react with hydrogen fluoride to form ethyl decanoate. Propyl laurate is also a fatty acid that functions as a cationic surfactant, which has physiological activities such as anti-bacterial activity and anti-inflammatory properties.
