Paraffin wax is a mixture of high-molecular weight hydrocarbons obtained as a residue from the distillation of petroleum. It is used in the production of microcapsules for the storage and release of drugs or other chemical compounds. Paraffin wax has been shown to be an effective enhancer for improving the detection sensitivity and stability of mouse monoclonal antibodies, which have been used in diagnosis and sample preparation. The phase transition temperature for paraffin wax is between 30°C and 35°C. This thermoplastic material is chemically stable at temperatures up to 121°C, making it an excellent candidate for use in manufacturing microcapsules that are exposed to heat during sterilization procedures.
