Description:

3-Phenyl-4-pentenal is an organic compound that is classified as an aldehyde. The molecule has a molecular weight of 136.176 and it contains three carbon atoms, four hydrogen atoms, one oxygen atom, and one double bond. 3-Phenyl-4-pentenal is found in foodstuff as well as tobacco smoke. This molecule can be synthesized by heating ammonium with acrylic acid or ethylene acetal in the presence of NaHCO3. 3-Phenyl-4-pentenal has been shown to undergo rearrangements to form 2,5-dimethylhexane and 2,5,5-trimethylhexane when heated with tetrahydrofuran. This compound also reacts with hydroxylamine to form 3-(2H)phenoxypropionaldehyde.
