3-(2-Pyridyl)-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazin is a coordination compound that is used as an oxidation catalyst. It has been shown to be a potential biomarker for the detection of carcinoma cells in cell lines and human serum. This compound also has a redox potential that is close to that of hydrogen peroxide, which makes it an excellent candidate for use in the synthesis of organic peroxides. 3-(2-Pyridyl)-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazin is synthesized by changing the reaction solution from acidic to basic with hydrochloric acid and then adding glycols. The nitrogen atoms on the molecule form hydrogen bonds with the hydroxide ion and react with the oxygen in water to produce nitrous oxide (N 2 O) gas and water.
