Phenyl vinyl sulfone is a pharmaceutical drug that has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity of chitosan quaternary ammonium. It has also been shown to bind to receptors in vitro and show the same effects as a covalent adduct. Phenyl vinyl sulfone has been shown to have a frequency shift when exposed to hydroxyl ions, which makes it a useful tool for studying hydrogen bonds. This drug is synthesized through an asymmetric synthesis, which gives it the ability to bind to both sides of a receptor molecule. The chemical ionization process can be used on this drug, which will produce hydroxyl ions that are useful for studying hydrogen bonding.
