2,4-Piperadinedione is an amide with a tautomeric form. It has been shown to interact with influenza viruses and may be useful in the development of anti-influenza drugs. 2,4-Piperadinedione is synthesized from propionate by hydrolysis and oxidation followed by condensation with ammonia. The synthesis of 2,4-piperadinedione can also be achieved through the lactamization of tyrosine with triethylamine followed by treatment with hydrochloric acid. 2,4-Piperadinedione has been shown to inhibit protein-protein interactions and may have potential as a linker for small molecule drug design.
