Product Information

Name:
Propionamidine hydrochloride
Synonyms:
  • Propanimidamide Hydrochloride
  • Propionamidine HCl
Description:

Propionamidine hydrochloride is a prodrug that is metabolized by the liver to famotidine, its active form. Propionamidine hydrochloride inhibits gastric acid secretion and has been shown to have anti-cancer properties in animal models. It has also been shown to inhibit HIV infection and chronic exposure to hydrogen fluoride. It is not yet known how propionamidine hydrochloride exerts its effects on cancer cells, but it may be due to its ability to block the production of endogenous adenosine or growth factors. The mechanism of action for this drug is not yet fully understood and requires further research.
