Product Information
- 4-(1-Pyrrolyl)benzoic acid
- 4-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzoate
4-(1H-Pyrrol-1-Yl)-benzoic acid (4-HPBA) is a synthetic fatty acid that has been shown to have antitubercular activity. This compound is a potent inhibitor of the bacterial enzyme fatty acid synthetase, which catalyzes the synthesis of long chain fatty acids. 4-HPBA has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and to be cytotoxic against human lung cells. 4-(1H-Pyrrol-1-Yl)-benzoic acid shows antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria, as well as an ability to bind with bromoarenes. The subtilis strains are not susceptible to this compound, but it inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex strains.
