- 1,10-Phenanthroline-2-carboxylic acid
1,10-Phenanthroline-2-carboxylic acid is a compound that can be used in the hydrolysis of acid solutions. It is also an enzyme inhibitor, which inhibits the activity of anhydrase enzymes. 1,10-Phenanthroline-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit the activity of carbonic anhydrase in vitro and in vivo. This inhibition prevents the hydration of CO2 to HCO3-, resulting in a build up of CO2 and a decrease in pH. The kinetic data for this compound have been obtained by measuring the rate of reaction on varying concentrations of 1,10-phenanthroline-2-carboxylic acid and chloride ions. The functional theory has been applied to 1,10 phenanthroline carboxylic acid because it has nitrogen atoms and carbonic groups. Crystal structures have also been obtained for this compound using crystallography techniques.
