Propargylamine hydrochloride is an alkanoic acid that has been shown to bind to copper. It is used in the treatment of hepatitis and microbial infections, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Propargylamine hydrochloride also has anti-inflammatory properties that are mediated by its ability to inhibit neutrophil chemotaxis. This drug binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential and causes a collapse in this membrane potential, which can lead to cell death. The mechanism of action of propargylamine hydrochloride is through competitive inhibition of ATP synthesis at the mitochondrial level.
