2-Propionylthiazole is a hydroxy group of the C6H5CH2OH, with a molecular weight of 122.14g/mol and a melting point of -6.4°C. It is stable in the presence of air and light, but may react with strong oxidizing agents such as chlorine gas or hydrogen peroxide. 2-Propionylthiazole is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of β-unsaturated ketones, sulfide, or mda-mb-231 breast cancer drugs. It can be synthesized from ethyl hexanoate through the addition of carbon disulfide to produce 2-propionylthiazole via a hydration reaction.
