Pyridine-2-carbothioamide is a low potency, water soluble molecule with a molecular weight of 150. The compound has been shown to inhibit growth factor activity in human serum and to have antimicrobial properties. It also binds to ethionamide, an antituberculosis drug, and other molecules that bind at the same site. Pyridine-2-carbothioamide has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in mice. This compound belongs to the class of pyridines and n-oxides, which are compounds that contain a nitrogen atom bonded to two oxygen atoms. The coordination geometry of pyridine-2-carbothioamide is octahedral with the metal ion occupying one of the axial positions; it is also capable of forming a hydrochloric acid adduct.
