3-Phenyl-propionic acid hydrazide is an antibacterial agent that exhibits its activity against bacteria by binding to the active site of the enzyme and inhibiting its function. 3-Phenyl-propionic acid hydrazide has been shown to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Serratia marcescens. The mechanism of action for 3-phenyl-propionic acid hydrazide is not well understood but may involve binding to glycosylated proteins or imines. 3-Phenyl-propionic acid hydrazide binds to the active site of the enzyme via a heterocycle (ring structure) and forms an n-oxide intermediate with chloride ions. This leads to inhibition of bacterial growth and eventual cell death.
