Description:

3-Pyridinecarboxylic acid mono[1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(1-piperazinyl)-3-quinolinecarboxylate] is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of pyridinecarboxylic acids. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme creatine kinase and the bacterial ribosome. It has a bitter taste and can be used in Chinese medicine preparations for subclinical mastitis. 3PF is administered as a single dose for treatment of infectious diseases. The pharmacokinetics of 3PF have been studied after oral administration in healthy volunteers. The absorption rate was rapid, with peak plasma concentration occurring at 0.5 hours and decline at 2 hours after administration. Peak plasma concentrations were approximately 8 times higher than those achieved following intravenous administration, indicating that oral administration was more effective than intravenous administration
