3-(2-Pyridyl)-L-alanine is a metabolite of the amino acid L-phenylalanine. It is formed by the intramolecular addition of hydrogen to the aminomutases, and then converted to 3-(2-pyridyl)alanine by an aminomutase. The analogs of 3-(2-pyridyl)-L-alanine have been detected in various natural products, such as siderophores, antibiotics, and pigments. 3-(2-Pyridyl)-L-alanine can be synthesized using chromophore and hydrogen bond chemistry. This chemical is a substrate for chemoenzymatic synthesis.
