2-Piperidineethanol is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and has low volatility. It has been used as a solvent for chemical reactions, such as the formation of amines from nitroalkanes and ammonia. 2-Piperidineethanol reacts with amines to form imines, which are intermediates in the synthesis of polyamides. 2-Piperidineethanol can also be used as a solvent for the preparation of heterocyclic compounds. The solubility of 2-piperidineethanol increases when it is mixed with water or other polar organic solvents. This property makes it useful in polymer synthesis because it can be used to dissolve polymeric matrices. In addition, this chemical has been shown to have a low thermal expansion coefficient and is stable across a wide range of temperatures, making it useful in chemical reactions where kinetic data are required.
