Description:
6-Phenylquinoline is a chiral catalyst that was first discovered in Australia. It catalyzes the asymmetric synthesis of cyclohexanones from phenols and ketones. The reaction is catalyzed by the 6-phenylquinoline, which also acts as an oxidizing agent to enable the cyclization reaction. The cyclization yields are high, with a 95% yield of cyclohexanone when using acetophenone and phenol. This reaction has been used to synthesize drugs such as carbamazepine and ibuprofen.
