Description:

Phenoxyacetone is a chemical that inhibits enzymes. It is an irreversible enzyme inhibitor and has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, the enzyme responsible for breaking down acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that transmits nerve impulses in the brain. Phenoxyacetone has been used as a research tool to study neuronal function, but it has not been approved for use in humans. Phenoxyacetone has also been shown to be an effective treatment for autoimmune diseases such as emphysema and rheumatoid arthritis. The irreversible inhibition of acetylcholinesterase by phenoxyacetone may be related to its ability to inhibit neuronal function and cause inflammation at the site of injury or infection.
