Product Information
- Isoquinoline, 1-(1-Piperazinyl)-
1-(Piperazin-1-yl)isoquinoline is a synthetic compound that is a member of the piperazine class of compounds. It has been shown to have biological properties and can be used in the treatment of schistosomiasis. 1-(Piperazin-1-yl)isoquinoline binds to the iminium group in the receptor site, which inhibits sodium ion channels, leading to an increase in intracellular calcium levels. This causes smooth muscle contraction and relaxation, resulting in an antihypertensive effect. The syntheses of 1-(piperazin-1-yl)isoquinoline are scalable and can be accomplished using ethyl formate instead of the more expensive starting materials, such as acetaldehyde.
