Description:

4-Pyridin-3-yl-benzaldehyde (4PBA) is a ligand that is used as an x-ray crystallography probe to determine the structure of protein cavities. It has been shown to bind to and stabilize the active site of enzymes, such as pyridylalanyl aminopeptidase II, which catalyzes the reaction between amino acids and their hydrolysis products. 4PBA is also able to coordinate with metal ions such as Fe3+ or Zn2+, suggesting it may be useful for metal ion chelation therapy.
