Proflavine HCL is a fluorescent dye that is used to stain cells and tissues. It is also an antimicrobial agent, which is effective against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Proflavine HCL has been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of bacterial cultures in low doses. The antibiotic has been tested on solid tumours in mice and showed promising results when combined with trifluoroacetic acid. This drug also displays site-specific activity and affects cell signaling pathways through its acidic properties.
