Nor-benzyl benzetimide is a radioactive isotope of the halogen phenyl radiolabelled with the radioactive isotopes carbon-11 or fluorine-18. It is used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to visualize muscarinic receptors. Nor-benzyl benzetimide binds to these receptors, which are located on the surfaces of cells that are involved in smooth muscle contraction and glandular secretion. The ligands then emit gamma rays that can be detected by a PET scanner.
