L-Phenylalanine amide hydrochloride is a glycine analog that contains an acetonitrile group. It has been shown to catalyze the basic hydrolysis of benzyl ester and methyl ester bonds in peptides. L-Phenylalanine amide hydrochloride can also be used to synthesize peptides containing c-terminal groups, which are not formed by conventional methods. This compound is often used as a buffering agent for enzymes in immobilized cells.
