Description

L-Phenylalanine hydrazide is a drug that has been shown to block the synthesis of enkephalins, natural substances that are involved in pain and inflammation. L-Phenylalanine hydrazide also has analytical methods for its detection. It can be detected by magnetic resonance spectroscopy, which can provide information about the location of the molecule within cells. L-Phenylalanine hydrazide is not active against many microorganisms. This drug is effective against some bacteria, fungi, and viruses but not against bacterial spores or Chlamydia trachomatis. L-Phenylalanine hydrazide also has antitumour activity and may inhibit the growth of cancer cells by blocking the production of proteins that are essential for cell division.
