3-(3'-Pyridyl)-DL-alanine is an ester derivative of 3-(3'-pyridyl)-L-alanine. It is an acidic, halide salt that can be synthesized by condensation of tert-butyl alcohol and diethyl isothiocyanate. The product is purified by chromatography on silica gel using a gradient elution with dichloromethane and methanol mixtures. 3-(3'-Pyridyl)-DL-alanine has been used to synthesize the acid ethyl ester, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
