Phosphoenolpyruvate potassium salt is a phosphoenolpyruvic acid that has a hydroxy group. It is a polymerase chain reaction substrate and is used in the synthesis of DNA. Phosphoenolpyruvate potassium salt is also used as an alternative energy source for cardiac muscle cells, which have been shown to be beneficial for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy. The compound has also been found to reduce restenosis rates after angioplasty, and may be effective in the treatment of cancer due to its ability to inhibit kinesin-mediated cell movement.
