Description:

Phe-Phe-OMe·HCl is a phosphatase inhibitor that can be used as a drug to treat parasitic infections. Phe-Phe-OMe·HCl inhibits phosphatases, which are enzymes that break down phospholipids and proteins in the cell membrane. This chemical has been shown to be effective against metacestodes and multilocularis, but not against alveolar or chemically induced lung damage. The molecular weight of this compound is 313.6 g/mol and it has an ultraviolet absorption maximum at 228 nm. It also absorbs vibrational energy at 3240 cm-1, which corresponds to the stretching of the CH group in the methyl ester group. Phe-Phe-OMe·HCl can be synthesized by reacting l-phenylalanine with methyl iodide followed by hydrolysis with HCl acid.
