L-Proline ethyl ester hydrochloride is a polymerized form of the amino acid proline. It is synthesized by the reaction of L-proline with ethyl chloroformate in the presence of triethylamine. The polymerization process was confirmed through an x-ray diffraction study, which showed that the product had a high degree of crystallinity and a molecular weight of approximately 5000 Da. L-Proline ethyl ester hydrochloride has been investigated as a treatment for breast cancer and other cancers. The drug has shown promising results in vitro, but more research needs to be done to determine its effectiveness in vivo.
