Product Information

Name:
Phthaloyl-L-Valine
Synonyms:
  • Pht-L-Val-OH
  • 2-(1,3-Dioxo-1,3-dihydro-2H-isoindol-2-yl)-3-methylbutanoic acid
  • (2S)-2-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-2H-isoindol-2-yl)-3-methylbutanoic acid
  • Pht-Val-Oh
Description:

Phthaloyl-L-Valine is the chiral form of L-valine. It is a white crystalline solid that has been shown to undergo cyclodehydration reactions, which are catalysed by acid. The reaction mechanism for this process is an elimination reaction, where the elimination of water molecules from the molecule leads to the formation of an alcohol and a carboxylic acid. This product also reacts in acetonitrile and sodium salts with phthalic acid to produce dyes and amides. Phthaloyl-L-Valine has photochemical properties and can react with other compounds to produce different coloured compounds when irradiated with light.
