4-(3-Phenylpropyl)piperidine is a synthetic compound that has affinity for amines and chloride ions. It is also electron deficient and antiviral, with potent activity against HIV-1. This molecule has been shown to bind to the CCR5 receptor in the subunits of HIV-1 with high affinity. The 4-(3-Phenylpropyl)piperidine molecule has also been shown to inhibit the growth of mycobacteria by interfering with DNA synthesis. 4-(3-Phenylpropyl)piperidine can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
