Description:
5-Phenyl-1H-indazole is a synthetic antibiotic that has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a study. 5-Phenyl-1H-indazole is an inhibitor of bacterial topoisomerase, which is an enzyme necessary for DNA replication. It binds to the enzyme and prevents it from performing its function, inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell division. This drug has been shown to have antibacterial activity against other bacteria as well, such as Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 5-Phenyl-1H-indazole has been shown to inhibit bacterial gyrases at nanomolar concentrations, which may be due to its ability to bind to the enzyme's active site.
