Description:

2-Phenoxypropanamide is an organic compound that is used as a fungicide. It has shown pesticidal activity against the fungus Rhizoctonia solani and the bacterium Erwinia amylovora. 2-Phenoxypropanamide is also effective against some plant diseases, such as black spot on roses and powdery mildew on cucumbers. The fungicidal activity of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit cell membrane function through chloride ion penetration. 2-Phenoxypropanamide can be synthesized by hydrolysis of 2-phenoxyphenylacetic acid esters or by chlorination of phenol with subsequent reaction with ethyl acetate. This process yields two types of optical isomers: erythro and threo.
