Product Information
2-Phenylthiobenzaldehyde is an organic compound that has the molecular formula C8H6S. It is a white solid, soluble in organic solvents and slightly soluble in water. 2-Phenylthiobenzaldehyde can be produced by the formylation of benzene with hydrogen peroxide. It can also be synthesized from nitrobenzene and formamide in the presence of base. The reaction time for this synthesis is typically two hours at room temperature or one hour at 50°C. This reagent reacts with amines to produce sulphoxides and hydrogen peroxide, which decomposes into water and oxygen gas. This efficient method is used to generate sulphoxides, which are important intermediates in chemical synthesis.
2-Phenylthiobenzaldehyde has been shown to have effects on T47D cells, as well as being able to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aure
