4-Phenyl-thiazol-2-yl)-acetonitrile is a coumarin derivative that is synthesized from 2-chloroacetophenone and toluene. It has fluorescence properties, which can be used in the development of fluorescent probes. The hydroxy group on the 4-phenyl ring makes it an excellent substrate for hydrolysis by hydroxylase enzymes.
