Name:
3-Phenoxypyridine
Synonyms:
  • 3-Pyridinyl phenyl ether
  • Ci 844
  • Pyridine, 3-phenoxy-
Description:

3-Phenoxypyridine is a drug that is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depressive disorders. 3-Phenoxypyridine is an endogenous compound that binds to the serotonin transporter, which is responsible for recycling serotonin from the synaptic cleft back into presynaptic neurons. This drug also has a pharmacological effect on cardiovascular disorders and inhibits monoamine oxidase P2 (MAO-P2). 3-Phenoxypyridine also binds to hydrogen bonds, which are weak electrostatic forces between molecules. This binding prevents the reuptake of serotonin by inhibiting its uptake by neurons.
