Trans-3-(3-Pyridyl)acrylic acid is a compound that belongs to the class of organic compounds. It is a white solid that can be prepared by heating 3-aminopyridine and acrylic acid together under reflux in an inert solvent such as tetrahydrofuran, followed by purification. The IR spectroscopy showed the presence of C=O stretching vibration at 1710 cm-1, which indicates the existence of a carboxyl group. The FTIR spectrum also showed an absorption band at 3200 cm-1, corresponding to C=N stretching vibration. Trans-3-(3-pyridyl)acrylic acid has been used in solid phase synthesis and structural analysis.
