Potassium tetrafluoroborate is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of polymers, such as poly(vinylidene fluoride). The reaction mechanism for the synthesis of polymers with potassium tetrafluoroborate includes an acid-catalyzed reaction between hydrogen fluoride and potassium. The polymerization process involves a particle-to-particle transfer of fluorine to form monomers, which are then polymerized by the action of a chain-transfer agent. Potassium tetrafluoroborate is also used in vivo to treat eye disorders and has been shown to be chemically stable in solution.
