Pentacarbonylchlororhenium (PCR) is an organochlorine compound that has a molecular weight of 258.9 g mol−1 and a molecular formula of ClRh(CO)Cl. The molecule consists of two chloro groups, one carbonyl group, and one rhenium atom. Pentacarbonylchlororhenium has been shown to bind to a variety of organic acids and metal ions, such as aluminum, iron, gold, copper, nickel, zinc and mercury with binding constants ranging from 10 M to 10 M. It has also been shown to have high detection limits in the range of 10-3 M for chloride solutions. This metal complex exhibits optical properties such as absorption in the visible region and emission in the near infrared region at 614 nm.
