2-(Phenylethynyl)pyridine is a compound that is used in the preparation of other compounds. It can be obtained by reacting acetophenone with nitric acid, hydrochloric acid or sodium nitrite. 2-(Phenylethynyl)pyridine can also be prepared by the reaction of phenacyl chloride and an olefin. This compound is used to signify amide groups, halides and biomolecules. The use of 2-(Phenylethynyl)pyridine in analytical chemistry has been shown to be a reliable method for determining molecular weight metrics and scission rates. 2-(Phenylethynyl)pyridine is catalyzed by palladium (II), which facilitates the reactions mediated by methyl groups.
