Description:
2-Pyridin-4-yl-quinoline-4-carboxylic acid (2PQCA) is a potent inhibitor of bacterial translation. It binds to the ribosome and blocks the interaction between aminoacyl transfer RNA and the nascent polypeptide chain, which inhibits protein synthesis. 2PQCA has been shown to be effective against E. coli, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa in vitro and in vivo. This drug has also been shown to reduce or prevent bacterial adhesion to surfaces, such as carboxylate groups on proteins or fatty acids on lipids in cell membranes. 2PQCA interacts with hydrogen bonding interactions with aromatic rings of proteins and nucleic acids, which may be important for its antibacterial activity.
