It catalyzes the reaction between malonic acid and 2-pentanol to generate a reactive intermediate, which reacts with surface methodology to form a product. This product can then be used as a feedstock for industrial process production. The kinetic of this enzyme was studied using surface methodology, focusing on substrate concentration and reaction yield. (S)-(+)-2-Pentanol is also expressed in E. coli cells through the use of an expression plasmid.
